This document is a working draft written by the Vig product team. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and must be before Vig launches to the public. Nothing on this page is a legal assurance until that review is complete.

MVP notice

Payments on Vig are simulated right now. No real money moves. Every funding, Payoff and refund is recorded in Vig’s ledger exactly as it will be with real payments, but nothing is charged to a card and nothing is deposited to a bank. Real payments through Stripe Connect are planned. Simulated balances will not be converted into real money.

1. How funding works

A Poster funds a Vig in full when they publish it. The amount is:

Payoff × spotswhat Runners earn
+ the $2 fee$2.00 flat, once per Vig
+ processingthe card processor’s fee, shown before you pay
= Total fundedheld by Vig
  • The platform holds the full amount from the moment the Vig is published until each spot is resolved.
  • Nothing is released to a Runner until the Poster approves that Runner's proof, or Vig Review decides in the Runner's favor.
  • The Payoff per spot must be between $5 and $5,000 for now. A Vig can have 1 to 50 spots.
  • The Poster's running total of Vigs funded, and the Runner's running total earned, appear on their profiles.

2. The platform fee

The platform fee is a flat $2.00 per Vig, paid by the Poster. It does not scale with the Payoff and it is charged once per Vig, not once per spot.

Separately, the Poster pays card processing as its own line on the receipt. It is an estimate of what the payment processor charges on the total and is shown before the Poster confirms. Vig does not mark it up. If the estimate turns out higher than the processor’s actual charge, the difference is not refunded; if lower, Vig absorbs it.

  • The platform fee is reserved when the Vig is funded and only kept by the platform once at least one spot is completed and paid.
  • If a Vig expires, is cancelled or is removed before any spot is paid, the platform fee and the processing line are returned to the Poster along with the Payoff.
  • Runners are never charged a fee. A Runner who completes a spot receives 100% of the Payoff shown on the Vig.

3. Releasing a Payoff

  • When the Poster approves proof, the Payoff for that spot is released to the Runner immediately and a receipt is generated.
  • Approval is final for that spot. A Poster cannot claw back an approved Payoff through Vig. If you are unsure, use Request Review instead of approving.
  • If a Vig Review decides in the Runner's favor, the Payoff is released the same way.
  • The Runner's profile totals and success rate update as soon as the Payoff is released.

4. Multi-spot Vigs

A Vig with several spots is funded once and paid out per spot.

  • Each Runner who completes a spot is paid the full Payoff for that spot, independently of the others.
  • The platform fee is charged once for the whole Vig, when the first spot is paid.
  • If some spots are completed and the rest expire or are cancelled, the unused Payoff for the remaining spots is returned to the Poster. The platform fee is kept because work was completed.
  • A Runner who is rejected by Vig Review or who lets their deadline pass returns the spot to the pool so another Runner can take it.

5. Refunds

Unused funds go back to the Poster automatically. Vig does not hold money it has no reason to hold.

  • Expiry: when the deadline passes with no active Runner, the remaining Payoff is refunded. If no spot was paid, the platform fee is refunded too.
  • Cancellation by the Poster: allowed while no Runner is actively working. Remaining Payoff and, if nothing was paid, the platform fee are refunded.
  • Moderation rejection or removal by Vig: everything not already paid out is refunded.
  • Vig Review cancellation: everything not already paid out is refunded.
  • Reposting an expired Vig re-funds the remaining spots plus a new platform-fee reservation.

6. Payout timing

Today, because payments are simulated, a Payoff appears in the Runner’s ledger instantly on approval. When real payments launch, the release to the Runner’s connected account will still be immediate on approval, and the transfer from that account to the Runner’s bank will follow the processor’s payout schedule. Expected timing will be published here before launch; it is a placeholder for now.

7. What comes with real payments

When Stripe Connect is enabled, the following will apply. Details are placeholders pending the integration and attorney review.

  • Runners will complete identity verification (KYC) with the payment processor before their first real payout. Vig never sees or stores your ID documents or bank details.
  • Posters will fund Vigs with a card or wallet. Card details are handled by the processor, not by Vig.
  • Runners are responsible for reporting income earned on Vig. Where required by law, Vig or its processor will issue tax forms to Runners above the reporting threshold.
  • Chargebacks: if a Poster disputes a charge with their bank after a Payoff has been released, Vig will contest the chargeback using the proof and approval record. Filing a chargeback on an approved Vig is treated as fraud under the Terms.
  • Currency: US dollars only at launch.

8. Errors

If you believe your ledger is wrong, email support@vig.link (placeholder) with the Vig code. Every ledger entry carries an idempotency key and a processor reference, which lets us trace exactly what happened.
