This document is a working draft written by the Vig product team. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and must be before Vig launches to the public. Nothing on this page is a legal assurance until that review is complete.

1. When a dispute happens

Most Vigs end the simple way: the Runner submits proof, the Poster approves it, the Payoff is released. A dispute happens when the Poster looks at the proof and does not believe it meets the Vig. Instead of approving, the Poster can Request Review.

There is deliberately no “reject” button for Posters. A Poster cannot unilaterally deny a Runner’s Payoff. Either the Poster approves, or Vig decides.

2. What Request Review does

  1. The Poster writes a reason. This is required and is shown to the reviewer and to the Runner.
  2. The proof is marked under review, the Runner's assignment moves to Vig Review, and the Vig shows a Vig Review status.
  3. The Payoff stays held by Vig. It is not released to the Runner and it is not returned to the Poster until the review is decided.
  4. The Runner is notified that their proof was sent to Vig Review and that their Payoff is held, not lost.
  5. A Vig reviewer picks up the case from the review queue.

3. What the reviewer looks at

  • The Vig as the Runner saw it: title, public description, instructions, proof requirements, and any private details unlocked to that Runner.
  • The proof itself: text, media, links, checklist responses, and when it was submitted relative to the deadline.
  • Automated verification results: the verification score, individual checks (media present, checklist complete, plausible duration) and any fraud flags such as an implausibly fast submission.
  • The Poster's reason for requesting review and any note the Runner attached when expressing interest.
  • The Vig's event timeline and both parties' history on Vig: completion counts, success rates, ratings and prior reviews.

The standard is whether a reasonable person reading the Vig would consider the work done as described. Ambiguity in the Vig is read in the Runner’s favor: it is the Poster’s job to be clear about what counts as done.

4. Possible outcomes

  • Pay Runner

    pay_runner

The proof meets the Vig. The Payoff is released to the Runner exactly as if the Poster had approved it, the platform fee is kept, and the Runner's stats update.

  • Refund Poster

    refund_poster

The proof does not meet the Vig. The proof is marked rejected, the Runner is not paid, the spot returns to the pool and the Vig goes back live so another Runner can take it. The Poster's funds for that spot stay held for the reopened spot rather than being refunded immediately; they are refunded if the Vig later expires or is cancelled.

  • Cancel Vig

    cancel_contract

The Vig itself is the problem: it was unclear, impossible, or should not have been posted. The assignment is cancelled, the Vig is cancelled, and everything not already paid out is returned to the Poster, including the $2 fee if no spot was ever paid.

Both parties are notified of the decision in-app. The decision and the reviewer’s internal notes are recorded on the Vig.

5. Timelines

The following windows are placeholders and will be finalized before launch:

  • Poster response window after proof is submitted: a default number of days after which unresolved proof is escalated to Vig Review automatically. Target: 3 days.
  • Vig Review decision: target within 2 business days of the request. Complex cases may take longer, and both parties are told if so.
  • Appeal window: a fixed number of days after a decision. Target: 7 days.

6. Appeals

An appeal process is planned but not yet available. The intended shape: either party may appeal once, within the appeal window, by emailing support@vig.link (placeholder) with the Vig code and new information the reviewer did not have. A different reviewer decides the appeal. The appeal decision is final. This section is a placeholder pending attorney review.

7. Good-faith expectations

Vig Review works because both sides use it honestly. The following are violations of the Terms and can lead to account action:

  • Requesting review to delay or avoid paying for work that was clearly done.
  • Submitting proof you know does not meet the Vig, reusing media from another Vig, or editing media to misrepresent it.
  • Withholding approval to renegotiate the Payoff after the work is done. The Payoff is fixed when the Vig is published.
  • Contacting the other party outside Vig to pressure them about a review.
  • Repeated reviews with no basis. A Poster's or Runner's review history is visible to reviewers and affects how their account is treated.

A Poster who wants a different result than the Vig describes should post a new Vig. A Runner who realises a Vig cannot be completed should say so before the deadline rather than submitting weak proof.

8. Disputes about anything else

Vig Review covers proof. For a Vig you believe should not have been posted, see the Prohibited Vigs policy. For a ledger or refund question, see the Payments policy. For anything else, support@vig.link (placeholder).
